THIS WORK IS IN MY DNA

ADVERTISING BACKGROUND
+ FINE ART DEGREE

Visual communication, a continally evolving profession, runs through my veins. I’m the fourth-generation in a Los Angeles advertising family.

FIRST GEN – 19th CENTURY AD MAN

In 1882, my great-grandfather came to the U.S. from England as a teen-ager. By the turn of the 20th century, he had his own printing business in Los Angeles.

Before modern advertising agencies, the printer created advertising. So by default, my great-grandfather was an ad man. Although first he tried a career as an actor – how L.A.!

SECOND GEN – 1924 NEON

Neale Rainbow Light Neon 1920s and 1930s California

From 1924 to 1932, my grandfather and his brother owned Los Angeles’s first neon sign company, Neale Rainbow Light. Their spectacular showroom was at 1800 W. Pico.

During the Great Depression, businesses struggled so my grandfather reinvented himself with a new business called Luminous Structures. At the time, the DWP was encouraging industry to use more electricity and his company engineered lighting for tall buildings and helped reimagine Main Street.

With WWII came blackout restrictions, and it was time for my grandfather to reinvent himself again. That’s business.

THIRD GEN – MADMEN, CALTECH STYLE

Gen 3 Madmen LA Style

In 1946, my grandfather founded Neale Advertising Associates and opened offices in the Ferguson Building on Bunker Hill, right next to Angel’s Flight.

My father, a Cal Tech graduate trained as an electrical engineer, was just finishing his WWII Naval duty. Instead of practicing engineering, he decided to join his father’s new company. With his Cal Tech education, he created systematic and precise advertising. It worked.

Grandpa retired in the early 70s but remained fascinated by business. He thought it was fun to go through the classified section of the newspaper, notice what industries were hiring, and then imagine starting a new business in that robust sector.

There’s a lesson in that!

Once the agency was his own, Dad reduced the size of the agency, keeping it micro-sized with a network of associates to call upon as needed.

Small agencies have the pleasure of helping a business grow and succeed in a very direct way. We get to see the benefits in our client’s life as a result.

Dad also volunteered for many decades as Commodore in U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. A truly helpful person!

MY GEN – THE ART MAJOR

Multi-gen advertising family

In the early 90s, I joined Neale Advertising as Creative Director. Yes, I wore shoulder pads.

As a fine art major just out of school, I cared intensely about the art direction. With Dad’s mentoring, I soon understood the “power of the pitch.”

Neale Advertising Associates was a traditional agency. As such, we worked in most media: TV, radio, outdoor, magazines, newspaper, trade publications, infomercials, annual reports, and direct mail.

In 2007, Neale Advertising Associates closed out their last client. I’ve continued with my own creative agency, working with marketing managers, business owners, and other marketing creatives on a variety of visual communications.

AND HERE WE ARE.

In the past century, the media options for promoting business have expanded exponentially, to say the least! Great-grandfather could not have imagined the internet, Google ppc, or social media promotions. But I believe the same core marketing principles are at play.

I’ll handle your project with the professional attention that I’ve applied for 30 years. Old school dedication with future-forward techniques.

Branding, web, print, and signage. My agency could be the perfect fit for your small business. Give me a call and let’s find out! In an ever-changing media landscape, I’m here to guide you through to success. It’s in my DNA.
